A crochet golf headcover is a closed tube with a wide body for the club head and a ribbed neck that grips the shaft. Start at the top with a flat circle as wide as the head, work straight rounds, decrease into a long ribbed neck, and top it with a pom-pom. Make the driver cover the biggest, then a fairway wood and a hybrid, and stitch a number on each so they're easy to tell apart in the bag.

Sizes
| Club | Circle stops at | Body rounds | Neck stitches | Neck rounds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Driver | 48 (Rnd 6) | 16 | 36 | 18 |

| Hybrid | 32 (Rnd 4) | 11 | 24 | 16 |
Based on hdc at 3½ stitches per inch. Check the fit on the actual club; drivers vary from 440 to 460 cc.
Driver cover
Join each round with a sl st; ch 2 doesn't count.
- Rnd 1: Magic ring, ch 2, 8 hdc in the ring. Join. (8)
- Rnds 2–6: Increase 8 per round: 2 hdc in each (16); (hdc, inc) × 8 (24); and so on to (4 hdc, inc) × 8. (48)
- Rnds 7–22: Hdc in each st. Try it on the driver head. (48)
- Rnd 23: (2 hdc, hdc2tog) × 12. (36)
- Rnds 24–41 (neck): Ch 2, *fpdc, bpdc* around. Join. (36)
- Fasten off. Fold back the last 4 rounds for a cuff if you like.
For the fairway wood, increase to 40, then (3 hdc, hdc2tog) × 8 = 32 and use 30 sts for the neck by working 2 extra decreases. For the hybrid, increase to 32 and decrease (2 hdc, hdc2tog) × 8 = 24.
Pom-pom and number
- Make a 3-inch pom-pom in one or two colours and tie it tightly to the top.
- Chain-stitch or surface slip stitch "1", "3" and "H" (or "4H") on the side of each cover.
- For stripes, change colour every 3 rounds on the neck.

Common questions
How do you size a crochet golf club cover?
The top circle should be as wide as the club head (about 4½ in for a driver), and the body long enough to cover the head. The ribbed neck grips the shaft so the cover doesn't fall off.
What yarn is best for golf headcovers?
Acrylic or a wool blend in worsted weight. It's durable, warm-looking and holds colour outdoors. Pure cotton stretches out.
Will the covers fall off in the bag?
Not with a long ribbed neck. Post-stitch ribbing grips the shaft; make it longer for extra hold.
