A crochet jersey ornament is two small T-shaped pieces — front and back — sewn together. You work the body in rows, chain extra stitches at each side for the sleeves, then shape a V-neck on the front. Stripes on the sleeves and a number on the back make it a jersey. It's about 3½ inches tall: perfect for the tree, the car mirror or a gift tag for a fan.

  1. Sleeve stripes: With white, surface slip stitch one line across each sleeve, 1 row from the edge.
  2. Number: On the back, chain-stitch the player number in white, about 1½ in tall. Add a name above it in small backstitch letters.

Common questions

How do you make sleeves on a crochet jersey?

At the armpit row, chain extra stitches at one side and work foundation stitches at the other, so the row gets wider. The extra stitches on each side become the sleeves.

How do I add a number to a crochet jersey?

Chain-stitch or backstitch the number with a contrast yarn after crocheting the back, before joining the pieces.

Can I make a bigger jersey?

Yes. Use chunky yarn on a 6 mm hook for a 6-inch jersey, or double all the stitch counts for a teddy bear shirt.
