A crochet football hat is a beanie in football brown with white laces stitched up the front. Work it top-down: a flat circle of half double crochet that grows 10 stitches a round until it fits the head, then straight rounds to the right height, and a ribbed band. The laces are surface slip stitch and short crossing stitches. The newborn size is one of the most popular baby photo props in the US.

  2. Cross it with 5–6 short horizontal stitches, about 1 in wide each, spaced evenly.
  3. For "stripes", embroider two short white lines at each side above the band.

Photo prop add-ons

  • Earflaps: On the last round, work 10 rows of hdc on 10 sts at each side, decreasing to a point, and add braided ties.
  • Matching football: Pair it with the crochet football amigurumi.
  • Team colours: Swap the brown for your team colour and add a team scarf.
