A reusable cup sleeve is one of those projects that gets used every single day — and a button closure solves the one problem every tube-style cozy has: takeaway cups are all slightly different sizes. This one wraps around and buttons wherever it fits.
It's worked flat in half double crochet with a cream stripe in the middle. About forty minutes, and the perfect teacher or coworker gift.

Make it your own
- Pumpkin patch: sew a small flat pumpkin or a leaf onto the cream stripe.
- Waffle texture: work the body in our waffle stitch for extra insulation.
- Holiday version: red and white stripes with a green button for peppermint mocha season.
- Mason jar cozy: add 4 rows to fit a 16 oz jar.
Common questions
What size is a standard cup sleeve?
Takeaway cups for 12–16 oz drinks measure about 9–10 inches around where you hold them, so a sleeve of 9½ inches that buttons fits nearly all of them.
Why cotton rather than acrylic?
Cotton handles heat and frequent washing better and doesn't get fuzzy. Acrylic works but can pill with daily use.
Can I make it without a button?
Yes — seam the short ends into a tube. Measure your favourite cup first, because a tube won't adjust.
What's in your cup this fall — pumpkin spice or plain black? ☕
