Crochet bouquets are the gift that took over social media: flowers that last forever, never need water and don't trigger allergies. They're surprisingly approachable — each flower is a small, quick pattern, and the "florist" part is just wire, tape and paper.

The rest of this post is just below — free, as always.

Step 1: Choose your flowers

FlowerTime eachPattern
Rose30–40 minCrochet rose
Tulip40 minCrochet tulip
Sunflower45 minCrochet sunflower
Simple five-petal flower10 minEasy flower
Heart (filler)5 minCrochet heart

A balanced bouquet has one or two focal flowers (sunflowers, large roses), several mid-size flowers (tulips, small roses) and fillers (small flowers, leaves, hearts).

Step 2: Make the stems

  1. Cut: Cut floral wire to 12–14 in per stem.
  2. Loop: Bend a small loop at the top with pliers so the flower can't slide off.
  3. Attach: Push the straight end down through the centre of the flower from the top (or up into the base), add a dab of hot glue and pull the loop snug inside.
  4. Wrap: Stretch green floral tape as you wind it down the wire from just under the flower. For a fully crocheted look, wrap the wire in green yarn with a little glue instead, or slide on a crocheted tube (6 sc around).

Step 3: Leaves

Make long leaves: ch 16, then in the 2nd ch from the hook: sl st, sc, hdc, dc in the next 9 ch, hdc, sc, 3 sc in the last ch; work back down the other side in reverse. Glue or tape them on 2–3 in below the flower. More leaf shapes in our leaf patterns.

Step 4: Arrange

  • Hold the focal flower in the centre and add others in a spiral, turning the bunch a little with each stem.
  • Keep taller stems in the middle and shorter ones at the edges.
  • Bind the stems together with floral tape about 4 in below the flowers.

Step 5: Wrap like a florist

  1. Cut two squares of kraft paper or tissue (about 20 in).
  2. Fold each into a cone, offset them for a layered look, and place the bouquet inside.
  3. Tie with ribbon or twine at the binding point. Add a tag.

Common questions

How long does it take to crochet a bouquet?

A mini bouquet of 5 stems takes about 4–5 hours; a full 12-stem bouquet 10 hours or more.

What wire is best for crochet flowers?

18-gauge floral wire or thicker holds a flower upright. Thinner wire works for small fillers. Avoid wire in bouquets for small children.

How do I price a crochet bouquet?

Add materials to your hours at a fair rate — see crochet projects to sell. Bouquets are among the best-selling crochet gifts.
