In this post
A tooth fairy pillow is a small cushion with a pocket on the front. The lost tooth goes into the pocket at bedtime; in the morning there's a coin or a note instead. This one is a 6½-inch square pillow with a tooth-shaped pocket — a white single crochet tooth with two roots and a smiling face — and a loop for hanging it on a doorknob.

Pillow (make 2 squares)
- Row 1: Ch 31. Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and across. Ch 1, turn. (30)
- Rows 2–32: Sc across. Ch 1, turn. (30)
- Fasten off the first square. Leave the second on the hook if you'll join it next, or fasten off.
Tooth pocket
- Row 1: In white, ch 11. Sc in the 2nd ch and across. Ch 1, turn. (10)
- Rows 2–10: Sc across. Ch 1, turn. (10)
- First root: Sc in the first 4 sts only. Work 3 more rows on these 4, then sc2tog twice. Fasten off.
- Second root: Skip the middle 2 sts, join in the next and work the last 4 sts the same way.
- Edge: Sc around the whole tooth with 2 sc at the top corners to round them.
- Face: Embroider two black eyes, a small smile and pink cheeks.
Assembly
- Sew the tooth to the centre of one square along the sides and roots, leaving the top of the tooth open — that's the pocket.
- Place the squares wrong sides together. Sc through both layers around three sides, with 3 sc in each corner.
- Stuff lightly (a flat pillow hangs better) and close the fourth side.
- Loop: At a top corner, ch 30 and sl st back into the same corner.

Common questions
What is a tooth fairy pillow?
A small pillow with a pocket where a child puts a lost tooth at night. The "tooth fairy" swaps it for a coin or a note, and the tooth isn't lost under a pillow.
How big should a tooth fairy pillow be?
About 5–7 inches square. Small enough to hang on a doorknob, big enough for a pocket that fits coins and folded notes.
How do I make the pocket hold a tiny tooth?
Keep your stitches tight so the tooth can't slip through, and put the tooth in a tiny envelope or zip bag inside the pocket.
How many teeth has your little one lost so far? 🦷
