A crochet daisy pillow is two flat flower shapes — a round centre with six petals — joined around the edge and stuffed. The centre is worked in rounds to 36 stitches; each petal is worked in rows on 6 of those stitches, widening, then narrowing to a rounded tip. In chunky chenille the cushion is about 18 inches across.

Flower shape (make 2)

For the front, work the centre in yellow. For the back, use yellow or white.

  1. Centre, Rnds 1–6: 6 sc in a magic ring and increase 6 per round, joining each round, up to (4 sc, inc) × 6. Fasten off. (36)

Petals (6 on each flower)

  1. Row 1: Join white in any st of Rnd 6. Sc in that st and the next 5. Ch 1, turn. (6)
  2. Row 2: 2 sc in the first st, sc 4, 2 sc in the last. Ch 1, turn. (8)
  3. Row 3: 2 sc in the first st, sc 6, 2 sc in the last. Ch 1, turn. (10)
  4. Rows 4–10: Sc across. Ch 1, turn. (10)
  5. Rows 11–14: Sc2tog, sc across, sc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (2)
  6. Row 15: Sc2tog. Fasten off. (1)
  7. Join white in the next unworked st of the centre and repeat for the next petal.

Assembly

  1. Place the two flowers wrong sides together, petals lined up.
  2. With white, sc through both layers around the outside of the petals, working 3 sc at each tip.
  3. Stuff each petal as you finish joining it — fibrefill doesn't travel well into finished petals.
  4. Before closing the last petal, stuff the centre firmly.
  5. For a "tufted" centre, sew through the middle of the pillow from front to back with yellow yarn and pull slightly.

Common questions

How big is a crochet daisy pillow?

About 18 inches across in super bulky chenille on a 6 mm hook. In worsted yarn on 4.5 mm, the same pattern makes a 10-inch cushion.

Why are my petals curling?

Petals curl if your tension is tight. Block the flower shapes flat before joining, or go up a hook size.

Can I make a daisy pillow without chenille?

Yes. Hold two strands of worsted acrylic together on a 6 mm hook for a similar size with crisper stitches.
