A crochet daisy keychain is two flat daisies sewn back to back with the keyring caught between them. Each daisy is a yellow centre of 8 single crochet with 8 white petals made from chains worked back toward the centre. Two layers make a sturdy charm that looks finished from either side. It takes about 30 minutes.

Daisy (make 2)

  1. Rnd 1: In yellow, 8 sc in a magic ring. Sl st to join. Fasten off. (8)
  2. Rnd 2 (petals): Join white in any st. *Ch 7, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: sc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, sc. Sl st in the next st of the centre.* Repeat 7 more times. (8 petals)
  3. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

The petals go from short stitches at the tip to taller ones in the middle and back down, which gives each one a rounded, petal-like shape.

Assembly

  1. Open the jump ring and slip it through a petal tip of one daisy only. Close it.
  2. Place the second daisy on top, petals lined up, wrong sides together.
  3. With white yarn, whipstitch around the outer edge of every petal through both layers. Use yellow to stitch around the centres.
  4. Attach the keyring to the jump ring.

Mini bouquet keychain

Make three single-layer daisies in DK on a 2.5 mm hook (about 1¾ in). Sew them in a cluster, add two leaves (ch 6, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sl st) and wrap the stems with a ribbon bow. Thread the keyring through the bow. For a full-size bouquet, see the crochet flower bouquet.

For a giant version, make the 18-inch daisy pillow; for an amigurumi, the crochet sunflower. Sew single daisies onto headphone covers or hair clips, too.

Common questions

How do you crochet daisy petals?

Chain 7, then work back along it with sc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, sc, and slip stitch into the next stitch of the centre. Repeat for each petal.

Why make two layers for a keychain?

Two layers are sturdier, hide the back of the stitches and look finished from both sides, which matters for a charm that spins on a keyring.

Can I use this daisy as an appliqué?

Yes. Make one layer and sew it onto bags, hats or blankets.
