In this post
A crochet elephant's character comes from two parts: the trunk and the ears. The trunk is a tube that starts at 6 stitches and widens to 10 where it joins the face, so it tapers naturally; the ears are big flat circles with a pink edge, sewn on so they fan out. The rest is a round head, a body, four thick legs and a little tail.

Common questions
How do you crochet an elephant trunk?
Crochet a tube that starts narrow (6 stitches) and widens to 10 where it meets the face. Stuff lightly and sew it on with the tip curled upward.
How do I make the ears stand out?
Fold each ear slightly at the base before sewing, and attach it along a curved line. A round of sc in a contrast colour stiffens the edge.
Is this elephant good for beginners?
Yes — it only uses sc, increases and decreases. The trunk is the only shaped part.
