In this post
A crochet phone stand is a small weighted pillow with a ledge. You crochet a flat pouch in the round, fill the bottom with pellets so it doesn't tip over, stuff the top with fibrefill, and sew a line across through both layers 1½ inches from the bottom. The phone rests on that ledge and leans back against the soft upper part — at the right angle for watching on a bed or following a recipe on the counter.

The pouch
- Rnd 1: Ch 26. Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in the next 23, 3 sc in the last ch. Along the other side, sc 23, 2 sc in the first ch. (52)
- Rnds 2–25: Sc in each st around. The pouch should be about 5 in tall and 6 in wide. (52)
- Leave open and don't fasten off yet.
Fill and shape
- Weight: Pour about ½ cup of poly pellets (or rice sealed in a zip bag) into the bottom.
- Ledge seam: With a tapestry needle and yarn, backstitch a straight line across the pouch through both layers, about 1½ in above the bottom. The pellets stay in the ledge.
- Top: Stuff the upper part firmly with fibrefill.
- Close: Flatten the opening and sc through both layers across the top. Fasten off and hide the tail.

Common questions
How does a crochet phone pillow hold the phone up?
A seam across the bottom creates a small weighted ledge. The phone's bottom edge sits on the ledge and leans against the stuffed upper part.
Can I use rice instead of poly pellets?
Yes, but seal it in a zip bag first so it doesn't absorb moisture or leak through the stitches. Pellets are washable; rice is not.
Will it hold a tablet?
Make the larger version (chain 40, 35 rounds) with about a cup of pellets for an iPad or similar tablet.
