A crochet tablet case is a seamless tube with an oval base, worked in rounds in bulky yarn. Measure around the tablet across the side it slides in through (2 × width + 2 × thickness), multiply by 3 stitches per inch, and take off 5%. Chain half that number, work around both sides of the chain, and crochet rounds until you reach the top. Bulky yarn makes a thick, padded case in an afternoon.

Based on single crochet in bulky yarn at 3 stitches and 3½ rounds per inch. Measure with any keyboard case attached.
The case (iPad 11, 58 stitches)
- Rnd 1: Ch 29. Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in the next 26, 3 sc in the last ch. Along the other side, sc in the next 26, 2 sc in the first ch. (58)
- Rnds 2–26: Sc in each st around in a spiral. Try the tablet in after Rnd 8. (58)
- Top edge: 1 round of reverse single crochet (crab stitch) for a firm, rope-like edge. Fasten off.
For another size, chain half the stitch count and work "sc in the next (chain − 3)" on each side.
Close it
| Closure | How |
|---|---|
| Button and loop | Sew a 12-chain loop at the centre back and a button on the front |
| Fold-over flap | Work 10 rows back and forth on the back half only, decrease to a point, add a snap |
| Handle | Leave a 4-inch gap of 12 chains in the last-but-one round, then sc over it |
Thinner device? Use the Kindle sleeve. Bigger? The laptop sleeve uses a denser stitch for heavier machines. Keep the charger tidy with a crochet cord tie.
Common questions
How do I size a crochet iPad case?
Measure around the side the iPad slides in through: twice the width plus twice the thickness. Multiply by your stitches per inch and take off 5% so it grips.
What yarn is best for a tablet case?
Bulky acrylic or a wool blend gives padding. Cotton is firmer but heavier; use worsted cotton and double the stitch count.
Can I use a crochet case with the Apple Pencil?
Yes — sew a 4-stitch-wide strip with 6 rows to the outside as a pen loop, or make the case 2 stitches wider and keep the pencil inside.
