No-sew amigurumi are toys built so that parts are crocheted directly onto the body instead of sewn on afterwards. Heads and bodies are worked in one piece, ears are started from stitches on the head, arms and legs are bobbles or are joined with a round of stitches, and eyes are safety eyes. You still weave in ends, but there's no assembly at the end — the part most people dread.

Five no-sew techniques
| Technique | How it works | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| One-piece body | Head and body worked in continuous rounds, with a neck made by decreasing then increasing | Bears, bunnies, blobs |
| Parts started from the body | Join yarn into stitches of the head and crochet the ear outward from there | Ears, horns, tails |
| Bobble limbs | Work a 5-dc bobble inside a round of the body | Arms, feet, paws |
| Join-as-you-go | Crochet the last round of a leg together with the body's first round | Legs on sitting toys |
| Safety eyes | Inserted before closing | Faces (embroider details) |
No-sew bunny
- Rnds 1–4: 6 sc in a magic ring and increase 6 per round to (2 sc, inc) × 6. (24)
- Rnds 5–9: Sc in each st — the head. Insert the eyes between Rnds 7 and 8, 5 sts apart. (24)
- Rnd 10: (2 sc, dec) × 6 — the neck. Stuff the head. (18)
- Rnd 11: (2 sc, inc) × 6. (24)
- Rnd 12 (arms): Sc 4, bobble (5-dc cluster) in the next st, sc 8, bobble in the next, sc 10. The bobbles pop out as arms. (24)
- Rnds 13–16: Sc in each st. (24)
- Rnd 17 (feet): Sc 4, bobble, sc 3, bobble, sc 15. (24)
- Rnds 18–20: (2 sc, dec) × 6 (18); stuff; (sc, dec) × 6 (12); dec × 6. Close. (6)
Ears worked from the head
- Find two stitches on Rnd 3, about 4 stitches apart at the top of the head.
- Ear: Insert the hook into the first stitch, pull up a loop, ch 9. Starting in the 2nd ch: sc, hdc, dc 5, hdc. Then work back down the other side of the chain: hdc, dc 5, hdc, sc. Sl st into the next stitch of the head.
- Repeat at the second spot. Fasten off and hide the tail inside the head.
- Use the pink scrap to work a surface slip stitch nose — the only "sewing" is weaving the end in.
No-sew vs low-sew
Some patterns call themselves "low-sew": maybe one part is sewn. If you're avoiding sewing because of time, low-sew is fine. If you struggle with neat seams, true no-sew patterns like this bunny, the ghost style or the mini chick are best.
Ready for sewn parts? The amigurumi beginner's guide covers neat seams, and the classic bunny is a good next project.
Common questions
What does no-sew amigurumi mean?
The toy is designed so that no separate pieces are sewn together: limbs, ears and features are crocheted onto the body as you go, and eyes are safety eyes.
How do you attach ears without sewing?
Join yarn into a stitch on the head and crochet the ear outward from there, then slip stitch back into the head to finish.
Are no-sew amigurumi good for beginners?
Very — they skip the trickiest part, assembly. You only need sc, increases, decreases and a bobble.
Would you rather sew or not sew? ✂️
